As I mentioned, I was in Regina this past week covering the Skate Canada International. It was also a chance for me to visit my family in Regina. One funny thing before I continue with my skating stuff.
Cousin Rhonda met me at the airport and after a quick hug, I introduced her to my friend Ted Flett who writes for Golden Skate. Unfortunately, Ted and I were in the middle of chatting about his real life as a lawyer so when I introduced him to Rhonda, that was the tidbit that I shared.
At dinner, Rhonda finally asked me – “I don’t get it. Why does Skate Canada need a lawyer at the competition?” That’ll teach me for not including the ‘whole story’ in an introduction!
Regina was a blast – the skating always a treat to see live! Oh, and if you want to watch my Facebook Live interview with newly crowned Skate Canada Champion Kaetlyn Osmond, click on this link!
Coming up next weekend is the halfway point in the Grand Prix Series – the Audi Cup of China.
If you can only watch a couple of things – I would suggest Javier Fernandez who is the leading talent in a sea of outstanding jumpers like Boyang Jin and Han Yan. There is always something charming about the way that the five-time European and two-time World champion approaches his programs.
The two-time ice dance World champions Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron have a beautiful lyrical style backed up with great technique.
In other words – another great skating weekend!
Don’t forget our weekly Facebook Live on Wednesday at 7:00p.m. in my ‘virtual living room’ on my Pj Kwong Facebook page. The @SkatingPj Podcast comes out tomorrow and features Tracy Wilson in a casual and very quick conversation!
