I am in Regina. I am having so much fun! The skating is great and the hospitality matches. Mind you, I am staying with family and the price is right!

As I did yesterday, I am coming up with a snapshot of memorable moments from day 2 of competition here at the Skate Canada International. On deck today? The free programs in all four disciplines.

The Ladies – Kaetlyn Osmond – Skate Canada champion – total score – 212.91

I am all in for this choreographic masterpiece with Kaetlyn as the Black Swan. The interpretation of the theme carried through from the Jeffrey Buttle choreography to the costume. I can’t wait to see how this program evolves over the season. LOVED IT!

Ice Dance – another tie – Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir – 7th Skate Canada title and new world record in the total score of 199.86.

Skating to Moulin Rouge – I didn’t think it was possible to find something to match their Carmen free dance in terms of pure artistry and technical genius. Oh yeah – it’s that good!

Kaitlyn Weaver and Andre Poje – Skate Canada silver

I loved Kaitlyn and Andrew’s ‘Je Suis Malade’ freedance from 2012. I was thrilled to hear that they were returning to it and even more excited to see that although they have only been working on it for a couple of weeks, the results are wonderful.

Men – Jason Brown – Skate Canada Silver Medallist

There is something innately charming about Jason Brown, and the delight that he took in this silver medal completely drew me in. I also really like how he expresses his musicality.

Pairs – Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford – Skate Canada champions – 4th SCI title

It makes me feel good to see how Meagan and Eric take what some would see as a problem, like the structure of their free program, and then re-work it to make it the best it can be. Tonight, it was pretty much the best that it can be. Well done!

Heads up! Tomorrow morning at 9:15 am local (Regina) time or 11:15 a.m ET I am hosting a special BONUS Facebook Live with Skate Canada Champion and World Silver Medallist Kaetlyn Osmond!! It will be on my Pj Kwong (author) Facebook page. Come find us! Follow me on Twitter @skatingpj and look for me on Instagram too!
