With one thing and another, I haven’t exactly been as productive over the summer as I would have liked. That all changed when within this last week, I got the chance to see and talk to 3 of Canada’s top five dance teams. In other words – my skating season starts now! šŸ™‚

I was in London last weekend as part of a crew that will be producing a feature about 2012 World Champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. I took the chance to work a little for myself on the side. Our conversation centered around what I heard during an interview with Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps; where he spoke of a ‘crash’ after the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and how difficult it was to get re-inspired to train.

It occurred to me that as skaters, or any athletes really, the idea of getting to the Olympics is one that is sparked at a very young age. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir ascending the podium on their first Olympic try must have been mind boggling. I was interested in what they had to say about goals, momentum and how they have evolved as people.
