What happens on the Field of Play changes everything around it. This is the importance of sport. For athletes in pursuit of medals, their sport provides the backdrop. For the rest of us, it’s a chance to connect with like-minded people and share, discuss, debate and experience the ‘thrill of victory and the agony of defeat’ from the comfortable and secure position of the sidelines.

I persuaded (begged?) my friend and sports broadcasting leader Andi Petrillo to sit down with me in Milan at the World Figure Skating Championships and record this podcast. Why I wanted to do this was simple: Andi has a ringside (and occasionally rink side) seat to sports history and getting her perspective on what makes it compelling was going to be fascinating.

I was right and I think you will agree too. I got the chance to talk to Andi about getting her start in the sports business. She has earned her stripes in both TV and radio and splits her time between CBC Sports on Road to the Olympic Games and TSN Radio for Leafs Lunch. She has lots to say and it all comes from a position of knowledge.

As someone who has been lucky enough to work with Andi, I can tell you that no one is more prepared or professional. A killer sense of shared humour is a happy by-product of our friendship.
