There is an old saying that if you want something done, you need to give it to a busy person. In an Olympic season, who could be busier than athletes training for the most important competition of their lives? Nobody that’s who.
I was in Saint John, New Brunswick over the weekend covering the Skate Canada International competition for CBC Sports. I arrived home on Sunday looking forward to April 2014 and a day off. In other words, it has been hectic and I wasn’t even competing!
Imagine my surprise at being invited to two different functions that included Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. I mean – shouldn’t they be resting or something? Apparently they are those busy people about whom I spoke.
In addition to training with a goal to repeat their Olympic title, Scott and Tessa have their eye on the future and what their story means to the business side of their skating relationship.
On Monday afternoon, it was a reception and a sneak peek for a reality show TV series premiering on the W Network in Canada on January 2, 2014. It follows Tessa and Scott on and off the rink. I wasn’t sure before seeing the trailer if there was going to be any new ground covered, and I have to say that if the series delivers on the promise of the trailer – it’s going to be illuminating.
On Tuesday, I got the chance to sneak into a hotel and interview them about 2 things – 1 of course is about their skating this season which will be featured on a CBC blog in the near future. The other is about their involvement with P&G products featuring one of my favourite product lines – Olay.
See what I mean ? Busy people and it’s not just about skating any more.
