Rock the Ice IV – with European Flare
The Peterborough Memorial Centre is gearing up to welcome the international cast of Rock the Ice IV on February 6th, 2013.
Spotlight Productions promises a night of world-class figure skating that will see both Canadian and European performers take to the ice.
In addition to Canadian heroes Elvis Stojko (3 x World Champion), Kurt Browning (4 x World Champion) Jeffrey Buttle (World Champion) and Joannie Rochette (World Silver Medalist), a team of European medalists are also set to perform, including 7 x British Ice Dance Champions Sinead & John Kerr, 3 x Italian Ladies Champion Valentina Marchei and 3 x Italian Pairs Champions Stefania Berton and Ondrej Hotarek, who, over the weekend, took the bronze medal at the European Championships, becoming the first Italian pair to ever win a European medal.
Rounding off the cast are: Canadian Silver Medalist Shawn Sawyer, Nexxice Junior, the acrobatic/adagio team of Fiona Zaldua and Dmitry Sukhanov and live singer Markus Engelstaedter from Germany.
The Euro-Canadian theme will be carried throughout the show by co-hosts Daniel Weiss (2 x German Champion, ARD TV commentator and founder of Spotlight Productions) and Pj Kwong (Canadian author, writer and commentator for CBC).
“We can expect another top notch event here in Peterborough with this colourful line-up of world medalists and entertainers,” said Sue Warrington, Arena Division Manager.
“It’s going to be a special night. We’ve got Kurt performing his Singing in the Rain masterpiece from seventeen years ago, while Jeff and Elvis have created brand new numbers specifically for Rock the Ice, to be performed to live music. We’ve increased the number of international skaters this year, created two new group numbers and integrated two hosts for the evening. In short, it will be one entertaining show!” said Spotlight Managing & Artistic Director Jennifer Weiss.
