Wow is the best word to describe what has transpired here in South Korea over the last couple of weeks.
To have a front row seat, ok technically a second-row seat, to figure skating history being made is something from which I will not tire.
I have no illusions about my place in all of this. I am like the luckiest fly on the wall. I don’t really matter in the grand scheme and in fact could be any number of people. The skaters are intent on their job and all they want to hear is their name being called so they know when to skate to center ice and start their journey. In fact, pair skater Charlie Bilodeau saw me in Olympic Park after his event and said: “I didn’t know that was you doing the announcing until after the competition.” This is exactly how it should be and how I like it.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir finished their skate. They were magnificent but the dazzling duo from France Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron had been as well, posting a new world record for the Free Dance. My friend and I looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders as if to say that it could go either way. I looked to my other friend Murray, a fellow Canadian, and did the maybe/maybe not sign with my hand.
It seemed like an eternity but my friend who could see the marks that I would be announcing in mere moments, gave an almost imperceptible ‘yes’ nod of their head.
Wow.
The Venue Ceremony followed as it did with each event. At the end of each ceremony our whole tech table is on their feet applauding for the medallists. It is wonderful.
Congratulations to Team Canada, Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot (GER), Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN), Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (CAN) and Alina Zagitova (OAR), you did yourselves and your countries proud. You are the 2018 Olympic champions and I am thrilled to have seen your journey!
