In a perfect world, I would like any skater who is ever asked to be in a show to review a tape of this season’s Stars on Ice Canada. The numbers were fantastic and showcased the individual performers talents perfectly. So often skaters in exhibition look bored and the numbers aren’t always memorable. The Stars on Ice Canadian cast ‘brought it’ in every case. I was wowed, and the performances and energy brought to this show should be a template for every skater everywhere!

I am not usually one to go on about shows that feature individual exhibitions rather than a theme, but this one is the exception. There were also great transition and group numbers and if I had to point to a couple of highlights, the first would be a number that was skated to Fields of Gold.

At the end, the announcer said something simple like: the skaters from the gold medal-winning team event in PyeongChang. The skaters were elegantly dressed in muted gold tones and were individually highlighted. It was beautiful and when their team status was announced, it gave me goosebumps.

There were lots of great numbers but the other one that stood out for me was an all guys’ number. Skated to ‘Feel it Still’ by Portugal. The Man – I loved the 60s vibe. As cool as the other side of the pillowcase? (Did I just say that?)

When I heard that Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir were going to skate their Moulin Rouge free dance, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I love this program and I honestly didn’t think there was anything to be done to improve on it. Wrong (again!) With the addition of theatrical lighting, it turned up the heat on the program to sizzle – and stayed there. 2018 Olympic bronze medallists Kaetlyn Osmond, Javier Fernandez and Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford all showed why they deserved to be on the podium in PyeongChang – what great memories.

Toronto was sold out and many of the other Canadian cities are as well. Congratulations to all concerned!

I was tickled to be able to watch a pre-show practice and have put together a montage of some of your favourite skaters – mine too!
