In case you don’t already know – I am big fan of Shawn Sawyer. I am an even bigger fan of Shawn Sawyer’s brain. He is very intelligent, quick on his feet and has a creative sense that is as rare as hen’s teeth.
When I was in Peterborough for Rock The Ice IV – we had lots of time to talk.
I also had lots of time to see how that creative sense translates on to the ice in performance. What follows is a snippet of his Cirque du Soleil number – how does he do that?
One of the things that intrigued me the most was when he talked about his art. He has a very specific process which I won’t explain for fear of getting it wrong. The thing that catches me with him is the way his face changes when he is talking about art. It is like he is drawn into a different place inside his head and it somehow makes me feel privileged to hear what he has to say.
