Courage is the word of the week. I am in awe of Kaetlyn Osmond who just won the World Figure Skating title in Milan.
I say this because if I had won an Olympic bronze medal one month ago in PyeongChang, I might have skipped this Worlds. Kaetlyn didn’t. She went out on the ice for the free program and just decided to skate her best and see what happened. She wasn’t attached to the results but rather the process. By taking the elements one at a time, she delivered only her second clean free skate of the season. Kaetlyn Osmond is the World Champion. I said to her afterwards in our Facebook Live, that if there were ever two occasions to skate clean, Olympics and Worlds would be the times to do it.
I also have a lot of respect for Olympic women’s champion Alina Zagitova and Olympic pair champions Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot for showing up at Worlds. For Aljona and Bruno, it resulted in their first World title. To try and get geared up twice in one month for two important events, the Olympics and the World Championships can’t be easy.
Congratulations to all.
